While mushrooms can certainly be magical, the taste isn't always. Here are some of my favorite ways to partake.

Mushroom Tea

I struggle with the texture of eating mushrooms and sometimes find that it upsets my stomach. Brewing a mushroom tea is the perfect way to avoid having to consume the actual mushroom, covers up the taste, is easy on the stomach, and causes a trip to come on quickly and powerfully.

Tea can be made with fresh or dried mushrooms. Weigh out your desired dose (remember that to calculate the approximate dose for fresh mushrooms, multiply the grams by 10). If using fresh mushrooms, begin by slicing them into small pieces. For dried mushrooms, I like to use a coarse coffee grinder to pulverize my mushies.

Next, put the mushrooms in a french press. A normal mug works as well if you'd rather filter using a colander or coffee filter. Add about a cup of boiling hot water and some of your favorite herbal tea. I prefer to avoid caffeine during trips, and like strongly flavored teas like licorice or berry. For an extra strong trip, I have used a method called lemon tek, where I add a couple tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice to the mushrooms and let it sit for about 10 minutes before pouring in the hot water. However, it does make the taste of the mushrooms significantly stronger.

Let the hot water, tea, and mushrooms steep for 10-15 minutes, then filter and enjoy! While everyone's experience will be unique and factors such as dosage, set, and setting apply, I typically feel a quick onset of the trip starting about 15-20 minutes after drinking, which is strongest from about 45 minutes to 3 hours after drinking, with an afterglow for many hours after the peak.

If you have no issue with the texture of mushrooms, you can certainly drink the tea without filtering out anything. However, I have not noticed any downsides or loss of potency from removing the mushrooms.
